We all know what a hot and dry summer it’s been this year, and with that comes unwanted visits from pests, bugs, and of course ANTS! These little pests will drive you nuts sometimes, as they can get into every single item in your cabinets and drawers. We recommend using this inexpensive, organic toxin-free, and environmentally-safe solution for getting rid of your ant problem.
How to Prevent Entry:
Saturate a cotton ball with 1-3 drops of peppermint oil, and wipe along baseboards, cabinet edges, and any other entry points. You can also leave a peppermint-saturated cotton ball in various area to deter ants from entering those locations (cabinet where you keep your sugar would be a good idea!)
Ant-Fighting Surface Spray
What you will need:[tm_list ][list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]4 oz. empty, CLEAN spray bottle: you can find this at your local dollar store or drug store (do not use empty cleaning product spray bottle. Remember, we want to keep toxins out!)[/list_item] [list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]15 drops peppermint essential oil[/list_item] [list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”](optional, highly recommended) 10 drops Melaleuca[/list_item] [list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]distilled water[/list_item][/tm_list]
Directions:[tm_list ][list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]fill your bottle about 75% full with the distilled water[/list_item] [list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]add peppermint and melaluca drops directly into the solution. If the peppermint aroma is initially too strong for your preference, you can decrease to 10 drops.[/list_item] [list_item icon=”fa-circle-o” color=”d2aded”]replace cap of spray bottle, and shake contents to blend everything together[/list_item][/tm_list]
How to Use:
Make sure to test the solution on a small, hidden section of each surface type you plan to use the spray mixture on. Typically, such an oils solution will not harm most household surfaces, but please make sure to test prior to full usage.
Begin by misting your kitchen counters lightly, and also don’t forget to spray inside your skin area. Sometimes left over bits of food in the sink can attract acts. If you actively have an ant infestation, and visualize the pests, go ahead and spray the solution directly onto the ants.
Another Useful Note: If you notice the ant problem is stemming from a certain location, such as a plant pot, or corner of the baseboards, lavender oil will be a savior for you. Place a few drops of lavender at the ants’ entry point location, and just wait and watch! The ants will start marching out because they can not stand the smell of the lavender, and usually the queen ant will also come out!
Keep in Mind: A 15mL bottle of oil from doTERRA will have approximately 250-275 drops of volume, so 1 bottle goes a long way. And because of the versatility of oils such as peppermint and lavender, you will have MANY MANY uses for your bottle on a daily basis. Definitely a great, cost-effective investment for improving your lifestyle and establishing a healthy, toxin-free environment for you and your family.
